Self-Esteem

Hey guys!

Firstly, thank you for popping back to my blog :)

Today's post is going to be about

Self-Esteem & Confidence.

Through the early teen years of any woman's life i think we have all had to tolerate bullying or bitchy behaviour of some sort ,whatever the extent or type, be it verbal, physical, cyber etc the effects always remain, sometimes affecting us in ways we don't even realise. Some of the negativity around females in particular is evidence of this and is both shocking and disappointing to say the least.

I have always wanted to discuss this topic but never really thought to blog about it,however this urge was sparked up again by a recent event.

We are all constantly exposed to a constant inflow of images in magazines and on the tv of unrealistic levels of perfection, the scrutiny towards people in the public eye is shocking. The need to look nothing less then perfect when going to pick up some groceries is even starting to spred to us normal folk.

Entire articles talking about 'celebs looking ugly' i personally believe to be unhealthy ways to make people feel better, especially at the cost of someone else.

The one i try to remember to live by is to just let go and be positive as much as i can.
Let go of all negativity ,let go of every doubt, every insecurity, every bad thought towards myself that i have ever felt & yes i know that it's not easy at all, even to this day i find it hard to follow my own advice, but allow yourself that moment of sadness, get it out of your system by all means, but let go when you're done.

There is absolutely no point in continuously putting yourself down with insecurities, its only natural to look in the mirror and only notice imperfections, after all you are your worse critic. You look at yourself every day so the first thing you will notice are the things that stand out, which most of the time are the things you deem to be imperfections and things you wish to change.

Why do you want to change? most probably because you are force fed images of 'ideals' by the media, but who determines just exactly what these ideals are? why must we all compare ourselves and be judged and ranked against each other!
Why must women be led to believe that if we dont look like the Cheryl's, Beyonce's and Megan fox's of the world, that we're not beautiful?

These women are all beautiful in their own right but so are you, so please do not forget that.I realise that sounds a bit cheesy but so many of you seem to forget this or worse yet, don't even realise.

To have a beautiful soul and personality is to be truly beautiful.

Nothing is more attractive than a genuine, down to earth person, so if there was anything you wanted to focus on changing ,please make it your inner beauty.

Forget all the make up, the fashion, the heels, and think, am i happy with who i am ? Could i be more polite or caring and compassionate towards others? because when you feel good about who you are your exterior falls into place and reflects how you feel inside. If you love the woman you have grown up to become you learn to love everything about yourself including your appearance.

Most bitchy behaviour comes from individuals who aren't happy with themselves, some who even kid themselves into thinking they are happy to cover up underlying insecurities that they may not even realise they have.
There is only one excuse for spiteful behavior and that is low self-esteem.
When you are truly happy with yourself and have come to a point of complete self acceptance you don't look at another woman or person in general for that matter in a negative or envious way,but instead you appreciate their individual beauty.

Remember  It is a waste of time and effort to dwell on insecurities, it is all in your mind.

If its something you can change for example your weight ,skin, hair etc then firstly admit to yourself that you are unhappy, don't cover it up with false confidence or defensive behavior and make a plan to do something about it. Always try to keep yourself in a positive mind frame about your progress as this will be your motivation to see it through and persevere.
Always look at things optimistically.

You're not going to be able to be disney happy everyday, thats not natural,of course you will have your off days, even now i still have the odd day where i look in the mirror and give myself a hard time, but just remember there are so many more important things in life to focus on there is so much to achieve .

Instead of looking at yourself and thinking i really hate my nose or i wish my lips or boobs were different why not look and admire a feature you really like, instead of focusing on the negative, appreciate the things you have been blessed with.

Everyone knows the saying life is too short, and that it most definitely is, its your choice, live a life of positivity and fulfillment or sit at home moping about things that can't be changed. Live your life to its fullest potential, achieve everything you want to achieve, do and see everything you dream of.

All of this starts with your attitude & mind frame, start one day on a positive thought the rest is a future in your control.

Remember

Hope you enjoyed the post!

'Sunkissed Bronzing' Product Review & Look

Hi Guys,

I was recently sent a few goodies from the lovely people at Sunkissed Bronzing Found Here & asked to create a Sun kissed bridal look of my own, First up i will show you guys a few pictures of the products i received along side swatches of them all aswel :)

Heres the box of goodies i received which consisted of a number of eyeshadows ,mono's , triplets & quads 2 lip palettes, applicators ,mascara's,bronzing pearls and a customisable palette! Unfortunately the handle of the brush that came with the kit was broken so havent included that :(

I want to start off by saying i really love the concept of this little customisable palette you can easily pop whichever combination you like and pop it in your handbag, i usually hate mono eyeshadows but having the option to pop it into a palette really appeals to me!...like so

There's enough space to even pop in a travel sized eyeshadow brush of your choice, perfect!

Now i must point out a con that i experienced with both the palette and the brush i received, this palette did fall apart (one of the hinges broke) quite easily which was very disappointing and the brush aswel, otherwise i would definitely purchase a palette like this as its nice and compact & handbag ready!

On To The Swatches!...

Shadows...
First up are all the eyeshadows!

I really loved the plum set and the bronze on the end, i used both together in my look to create a plum twist on a classic bronze smokey eye!

My personal favs are actually the mono's the pigmentation and colours were great and i love the massive size of the pans!

Lips...

I received two mini palettes here one of which seemed to be glosses and the other lip colours!

Last up are the jumbo sized Bronzing pearls!
They gave a lovely subtle bronze glow perfect for the cheekbones & as a highlight!

The Look i created with the products...

To create this look i used eyeshadow palettes 1,2 & 3 using the copper gold colours as a base, added depth to the crease with the darkest shade in palette 4 & highlighted my inner eye area with the light buttery colour in the same palette.

I then decided i wanted to add a pop of plum to the crease to bring some more emphasis to the eyes in this look, for that i used both the darkest colour in palette 3 and mono shadow 9.

For the skin i used the bronzing pearls on the outer parameters of the face and added a little of mono shadow 8 on top on my blush to add a tiny bit of glow to the cheeks.

Finished up by blotting on the middle shade in the lip colour palette followed by a touch of the last bronze colour in the gloss palette and voila!

As always i hope you guys enjoyed the post you can check out sunkissed bronze  on twitter here and their website here :)

My Absence From The Blogging World - Training At London Muse Make up School

Hey Guys,

Now some of you may (or may not) have noticed i haven't blogged in literally light years, that is because firstly i was working pretty much every day to save up money to go towards the course i'm doing at the moment .

I decided to go to London muse make up school and do their ultimate course which consists of 4 weeks of intensive training in make up artistry and just over a weeks training in hair styling.

I have so far had such a lovely experience at this school and thoroughly enjoyed every day as with each day i go in i feel i'm actually learning and developing not only technical skills but confidence in my application.

I can't wait to pursue this as a career as i have always loved art since i was a pea and my love of make up and more importantly the positive effect it can have on someone's self esteem are my reasons for wanting to pursue this as a career, i want to make women feel and look the most beautiful they can be and boost their self esteems whilst having fun experimenting and exploring new products.

I will do a follow up post once i have completed the course with loads of pictures taken along the journey, those of you who follow me on twitter/instagram would have already seen a few.

If you are someone who is looking into getting professional training in make up artistry and are serious about pursuing this as a career i cannot recommend this institute highly enough.
The atmosphere is very down to earth and friendly, classes are kept small to ensure everyone gets quality attention and feedback from the tutor.
Also another important aspect is that they offer a finance option, so you can pay for the course monthly, making training a lot more accessible then some make up schools that charge just shy of 20 thousand per year, which i think is ridiculous.
Its very much like a family; you form close bonds and contacts within the industry through the course which is invaluable.

I'll end this post by leaving you with a few pictures i have taken already! :)

Some of my work in class...

Course shopping day ;)

I will try my best to return to normal blogging mode as soon as possible as i am starting to have more time on my hands, i just wanted to share this experience as i am having such a good time and i know a lot of you were interested in training and hearing my opinion on the place itself also, if you have any questions at all feel free to ask :)

Fashion At Your Finger Tips

Let me start off with a statement i came up with a while back which describes exactly how i feel about fashion
'Fashion is not the label you wear , but the personality you portray with the pieces you put together, regardless of brand or price tag'

As an ex fashion student i have always had an appreciation for beautiful clothes, i have also had a permanent hatred for some of the overpriced high street clothes, which most of the time, the quality is most definitely not a representation of the price tag *cough topshop cough*
(i am very sorry if i offend anyone with that comment i just dont particularly like topshop i feel it has become so commercialised and i really do not feel the quality of their clothes deserve the price tags they dream up, although i do agree that sometimes you can find the odd good bit and bob..i personally have never found anything in there to my taste)

However i have absolutely no problem with high prices if i feel the clothes are truly worth it, i think people should definitely be more aware of what they are paying for and take a close look to see if its a good quality piece, my favourite high street store for price vs quality is zara, their clothes look both gorgeous and classy the tailoring in the blazers/jackets especially is stunning and i feel the clothes look far more expensive then they are if put together well.

I have compiled a list of great sites that you can online shop .These mainly focus on sites that offer affordable prices and great clothes for a wardrobe on a budget!

Here are the sites that i have found so far, i will update this post as i find more ,all sites included are trustworthy and have a good level of service!

  • Missguided - a FAB site, great service and lovely selection of clothes, they also do a mean sale too ;)

  • Fashionunion.com - Another affordable online fashion destination, prices are relatively low, some gorgeous bits and bobs in there too they do an even awesomer (if that were a word) sale , i saw some accessories starting at only £2! craziness!

  • Boohoo.com - If you haven't heard of this site well then..you were probably living under a rock of some sort, this site has grown from strength to strength each year and has been a favourite amongst bloggers and women alike.

  • axparis - Another site that offers a similar service and variety as missguided & Fashion Union, i wouldn't be surprised if they had the same supplier, i would deffo shop around and compare prices as certain sites offer exactly the same pieces at different prices!

Check them out ,let me know what you think of this post, i will do a similar follow up in a day or two about great sites for discounted make up, hair & skincare products both drugstore and high end i have a few favourite sites that i personally use a lot for that category so stay tuned!

In the mean time thank you for stopping by and hope to see you here again soon

Understanding Acne

Skin imperfections both severe and mild can be overlooked by most people or considered an insignificant problem. However unless you have ever suffered from particularly bad skin, you can never truly understand the sometimes drastic negative effects it can have.

Aside from the physical appearance, the main effects are psychological. Bad skin can have an awful effect on someones self esteem and even cause depression. Along side possible bullying in the school years of someones life the depression caused by acne can sadly in the most extreme cases even result in suicide. Which is why i wanted to take my time researching and trying to put together a really insightful post on the topic as i know it is extremely important to a lot of people, including myself. I never always had great skin it is something i have taken years working at, trying countless products and routines so i personally understand the stresses and frustration it may cause someone. This post is mainly about understanding acne by understanding its causes how it happens and basically the topic in its entirety.

Why Why Why...
Put simply, Acne occurs when hair follicles /pores get blocked.

Sebaceous glands are found near the surface of your skin attached to hair follicles, sebaceous glands lubricate the hair and the skin to stop it drying out. They do this by producing an oily substance called sebum.
Here is a diagram of a normal follicle:

When the glands begin to produce too much sebum. The excess mixes with dirt & dead skin cells; the substances form a plug in the follicle.Which forms a micromedone (illustrated bellow)

Both Blackheads and whiteheads start out as micromedones

When the blockage stays bellow the surface of the skin and is closed to the outside air it does not oxidise and forms a whitehead.

Alternatively, blackhead occurs when the pore opens to the surface, and the sebum, which contains the skin pigment melanin, oxidises and turns a brown/black color.

Blackheads are both stubborn and hard to completely eradicate, i personally would recommend weekly steam facials followed by either a clay face mask &/or effective nose strips .

Causes

Here are some basic & to the point known causes of acne:

  • Hereditary - various studies have shown that if acne runs in either or both sides of your family you are more likely to develop it yourself.
  • Hormone change - such as periods and pregnancy are a well known contributor to the development of breakouts as the increase in hormones at these stages can result in an overproduction of sebum.
  • Diet - A diet full of excessive amounts of simple carbs has recently shown some link to blemishes as A diet with a high glycemic value (high in sugar and other simple carbohydrates) sends insulin levels skyrocketing, which triggers sebum production, which contributes to the development of acne.Cells form more quickly and, when they become trapped in follicles, the usually harmless bacteria living on your skin then feast upon the excess oils; resulting in acne. This refers particularly to white bread, white potatoes and white rice; wholemeal options are recommended in replacement.
  • Dairy? - If you're a milk lover maybe take this into consideration.Dairy is harder for the body to digest as it is so intaking amounts higher then what your body can cope with will result in your body trying to rid itself of it through the skin, as the skin is an excretory system, which results in blemishes .
  • Oily Cosmetic Products/Not washing make up off - Particularly heavy application & pore clogging oil containing make up can be the cause of your breakouts.Opt for mineral make up &/or foundations with minimal ingredients. The improper removal of your make up is a big factor in the condition of your skin. I dont need to explain just how bad it is to sleep in your make up. A make up wipe will not suffice a good wash and thorough cleansing is preferable to make sure you have no traces of make up left on your skin. Leaving all the oil and dirt that has accumulated on your face throughout the day is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, the 5 mins it takes to wash your make up off properly is far better time spent then the 2 weeks you will spend combatting the breakout you got as a result of improper make up removal. Also sleeping with make up on leves traces of both make up,sweat and dirt on your pillow which again is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria during the day waiting to welcome you the next night so pay that in mind before u think its okay to miss washing your face tonight!

  • Contact - excessive touching of the face, a swooping fringe, un sanitised telephones all of these things carry bacteria and oils that can clog your pores and cause a breakout. Simply ensure proper sanitation of your belongings and hands and keep hair off of your face as even if your hair isnt greasy the healthy oils found on your hair & product residue left over from styling can clog pores and cause spots on your forehead. This includes the picking of the face and blemishes, digging and scratching at your spots and placing excessive amounts of pressure on blemishes can actually push more dirt into the blemish inflaming it and even causing it to rupture under the skin resulting in the blemish spreading to other follicles and even forming cystic acne .(see picture below)

  • Harsh products - using harsh, particularly alcohol based, products to cleanse and tone your skin may cause breakouts as most over the counter acne treatments contain harsh chemicals that can irritate and inflame the skin. Remember if you are constantly stripping the skin of its natural oils it will produce even more sebum to compensate for the loss of moisture resulting in blemishes.

  • Stress - Stress releases certain chemicals in the body, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which cause disruption to the proper functioning of the organs of the body, including the skin. As the functioning of the skin decreases, such as the regulation of oil production, acne can form. To treat stress-related acne, make attempts to reduce stress and anxiety in your daily life. Consider drinking a calming tea throughout the day, such as chamomile.

There are also other causes such as allergic reactions & reacting badly to certain products etc ,which are things you mainly discover for yourself as you learn what does and doesn't agree with your skin.

What Can I Do?!
Your first instinct would be to use the strongest products out there to combat those pesky blemishes fast but this is not the answer.
As i mentioned before harsh products can irritate and inflame the skin making the condition worser than what you started with. opt for the gentle route first then if after a months trial you honestly see no improvement up the strength of the products you use in stages.

My personal favourite skincare brand is lush fresh cosmetics as i know exactly what is in them, they are happy to explain how each and every product works and whats best is that their products are hand made freshly locally from fruits, vegetables and sustainable natural ingredients. They use a fridge to preserve most of their products and when they use artificial ingredients they are clearly pointed out in a different colour on the ingredients list.
Another range i would recommend is simple. Similar values as lush they keep their ingredients simple and gentle working with your skin rather then against it, fighting the breakout in the gentlest way possible with out irritating it with harsh ingredients.

Aside from topical products you can look into oral medications you can take, i would personally recommend a simple multivitamin and cod liver oil capsules as Cod liver oil is high inessential fatty acids which the body needs to make the hormone prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are important in controlling and reducing inflammation in the tissues.

A oral medication i have tried and liked is the HRI clear complexion tablets i recently done a post on them here, so please read if your interested in them, they are super affordable and i personally take them regularly as i feel acne is something that needs to be tackled not only topically but from within from a healthy balanced diet and maybe a little help with a herbal tablet ;)

Obvious factors as well such as giving up smoking and reducing alcohol intake will drastically improve the appearance of your skin, however out of all the tips mentioned the main one i would plead you follow is the proper removal and application of make up. Take that extra time before you go to bed to remove that make up, ensure you sanitise & clean your make up brushes regularly and limit touching your face as much as you can!

If there is anything else you wish for me to cover simply comment bellow and i will try to get back to you as quickly as i can and i will update this post as i find out new things .

Look out for an upcoming post im currently researching for about home made face masks and blemish treatments, i am aiming to do one post a week describing how to make a variety of different face masks using fresh ingredients found in your kitchen!

As always thank you for stopping by and i hope you enjoyed the post,
With love,
